## Today's Picks of the Internet
#### [How To Pay Attention](https://chrisguillebeau.com/how-to-pay-attention)
A very-short piece of content from Chris Guillebeau, author of the **100$ Startup**.
- To pay attention, you first need to understand *what is consuming your attention*
- Think about what you need to focus on and what can be ignored - Most things you listen to can be ignored
- Train your attention - Journalling, meditation, deep reading etc.
Treat the whole endeavour of "becoming attentive" as a journey. You might fail a billion times, but keep showing up the next day again.
#### [An hour-by-hour guide to your bedtime routine](https://www.vox.com/even-better/23894562/hour-by-hour-guide-bedtime-routine)
- A bedtime routine is your best and easiest shot at falling asleep if you find yourself struggling with sleep every night
- There is no perfect routine, but the folks at Vox have compiled some expert advice to offer some sort of a framework
**Two to Three Hours Before Bed**
- Avoid a heavy meal, alcohol or smoking
- Stay away from spicy foods and foods with high sugar content
- Also avoid caffeine (upto eight hours before sleep time)
**One Hour Before Bed**
- Start to dim room lights
- Make the room temperature a few degrees cooler
- Keep devices out of reach
- A bath
**15-30 Minutes Before Bed**
- Turn on white noise machine
- Small snack
- A calming activity - Meditation, reading, journalling, skincare routine
- Avoid any activity that is "goal-oriented"
Most importantly, none of this is rigid. Try what works for you. If you can't do it everyday, then do not beat yourself up over it.
