**The Negativity Bias Problem**
- Thinking and being are inter-related and cyclicly dependent. When you are happy, you think happy thoughts, you get happier. When you are down, you think negative and that affects you even more adversely.
- Regular negative thoughts lead to a lowered sense of self-esteem
- The more negative you think, the more time you spend on
- Ruminating over mistakes
- Being stuck in the past
- Overcomplicating decisions
**Managing Negative Thoughts**
- Recognise negative thinking when it arises. It could be an underlying mental health problem.
- Interrogate the negative feeling. Is it useful? Or is it aimless negativity?
- Transmute your negative thoughts
**Transmuting negative thoughts**
- Distance yourself from your thoughts
- Start a thought diary
- Calm yourself down
Having (& continuously struggling) with negative self-talk, I tend to ask myself *"What's the worst case if this goes to shit?"* as a de-catastrophising question. More often than not, it helps me calm down and focus on what is most important.
